At the June 1 meeting a couple of Council members asked what had been done by staff to follow up with a previous request to revise the way Preliminary Plan extensions are dealt with. Staff had taken proposed text revisions to the subdivision ordinance before the Planning and Zoning Commission at the beginning of May. There was very strong opposition to the proposed revisions and the P&Z commission voted unanimously to do nothing to the existing regulations. The proposed revisions represent a very drastic departure from the current process in a couple of key areas. The most significant changes were limiting the amount of extensions allowed, and considering a final plat void if not recorded within 10 days of Council approval. There is confusion within the land development and home building community as to why exactly these changes are being considered at this time - especially with the condition of the housing market. |
